The Power of Red

February 10, 2011 Julie

Do you go through phases where you’re addicted to certain colors or patterns?

For me these days, it’s stripes. And the color red. I guess my obsession with red could be explained by it being EVERYWHERE thanks Hallmark and all the other Valentine’s Day Powers-That-Be. Regardless how they’ve hijacked the month of February (which I totally buy into because there’s loads of great craft projects to make), I’m giving myself some love this month by making a new shawl/kerchief with it.

I started this shawl last week with Blue Sky Alpacas Sport Weight yarn in Scarlet and Light Gray. My fingers are seriously digging this 100% baby alpaca.

Honey’s Ruffle pattern uses a two row repeat in the pattern which makes this an easy project to work on while watching Glee without fear of losing your place (Sue Sylvester, yet another powerful force infiltrating my brain with her RED track suit!).

I really love the contrast of the crisp stripes with the ruffled edge in the pattern (not shown, because I was too busy chatting it up last night at our first Knit + Crochet Club). I’m hoping I can finish it before February closes and I’m onto my next color/pattern obsession.

Oh, and the recipe for the Red Velvet Whoopie Pies I made for last night can be found here.

Both the pattern and yarn (in your own latest color obsession) from this post are available in Home Made’s brick + mortar shop!
