Sew It: Felt Play Food

December 28, 2011 Julie

How was your holiday? Not surprisingly, I was making my Christmas gifts up until the very last minute. Because I made the totally rational decision on Christmas Eve to add some watermelon (with lots of detailed stitching) to my nephew Finn’s felt meal of a cheeseburger and hot dog. Hey, my little man’s gotta have a balanced meal!

Big Little Felt Universe by Jeanette Lim joined my craft book stash a while ago but I hadn’t gotten around to making anything from this adorable book. Until last week. Since Finn is 20 months old now and is inheriting his neighbor’s play kitchen, I thought some felt food was a perfect Christmas gift. Considering his favorite food is cheeseburgers, my only concern with giving this gift would be his potential disappointment that he couldn’t actually eat it.

I love this book and all the projects in it because you get just enough instruction (with photos!) to get started but you have enough freedom to get as detailed with the stitching as you wish. Tip: Use a drop of Aleene’s No-Sew Fabric Glue to secure pieces before beginning your stitching.

As I had hoped, Finn loved his play food. (:

Would you make felt play food for your little one?
