Ashley + Carlos’ Wedding

{Ashley + Carlos’ Wedding Programs, designed by Ashley’s cousin Samantha}

When I first met Ashley last spring, she was on the hunt for some inspiration for her upcoming wedding. Ashley was planning a summer wedding on a lake in her parents’ backyard and it was going to be full of handmade and vintage-inspired decorations. Sounds just perfect, right?

Ashley and her husband Carlos are both creative folk so I knew their wedding would be akin to something straight out of an Anthropologie catalog. Though, until I saw their wedding album, I had only her fabric purchases as a concrete reference for her design style. Well, that, and I learned that Ashley’s the kind of laid-back gal that will take a 5-hour quilt class the weekend before her wedding–love that! Creativity also seems to run in their family, as Ashley’s cousin designed their wedding invitations and programs and Ashley’s sisters helped with the handmade decorations (among other things, I’m sure!).

Now, before you go trying to get Ashley to leave her new job as an elementary school art teacher so she can plan your own wedding, check out some of her tips that she so generously shared with us.

Ashley’s Tips for Designing Your Wedding

Wedding-related blogs are a great source of inspiration.  Ashley’s favorites are Wedding ChicksOnce Wed, and 100 Layer Cake

Mix it up by buying and making things yourself. Some of Ashley’s favorite places to shop and find inspiration for her own handmade projects were Bhldn, Etsy, Uline (for things like a roll of burlap to lay atop a crisp white table linen), and Home Made (Of course!).

Choose a photographer whose style matches yours. Ashley and Carlos chose Melissa Chinici Photography. I think the above photos are a testament to how it was a perfect match.

Carry your style right on through to how you commemorate your wedding. Ashley and Carlos compiled their wedding photos into a photo book using Blurb in lieu of a traditional album.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful wedding with us, Ashley + Carlos!
