Making Pillowcases with the Girl Scouts

Girls Scouts' Pillowcases for ConKerr Cancer

For about a month now, we’ve been making pillowcases for sick kids in our area with ConKerr Cancer. On March 24, we hosted a Craftin’ for a Cause event where we collected and made over 50 pillowcases!  You can read about all the fun we had here. A week later, we had some Girl Scouts visit to stitch up their own contributions to the cause.

What a terrific group! The girls were patient, focused, and so excited to make something they knew would bring a smile to another kid. After we finished our sewing, their troop leader read them A Case for Adventures, a book written by Katie Kerr about her brother’s experience battling cancer.

They were even presented with a ConKerr Cancer sewing badge to add to their green vests! But, just like the rest of us who have made these pillowcases, the troop left with hopes to return soon so they could make one for themselves. Hope to see you again soon, girls!

You did us proud Leah, Juliana, Maya, Hadden, Kristina, Bryn, Sophie, Lena, and Rosie!

Special thanks to their troop leader, Kim, ConKerr Cancer volunteer Eunice, and Mama Cindy. (:
