Today I’m introducing a new arrival in the Home Made shop – Manos del Uruguay’s Maxima yarn! Isn’t it gorgeous? Each hank of super soft merino wool yarn is hand-dyed in large kettles, making each one unique.
Now, this yarn isn’t just about lookin’ pretty. This is a yarn of substance. Manos del Uruguay (The Hands of Uruguay) is a non-profit organization comprised of over 400 artisans throughout the countryside of Uruguay working to eradicate poverty and bring economic and social opportunities to rural women. And, recently, Manos del Uruguay became a member of the World Fair Trade Organization. As a social worker, you know this makes my heart sing.
Each hank even has a tag identifying the name of the artisan who created it as well as where in Uruguay the yarn was made. Gotta love that!
What color will you use to cast on for your Fall knitting project!
