Handmade Holidays : Gift Guide No. 4 + Holiday Party Update

This last gift guide isn’t your typical “gift guide.” You and I both know that gift giving is really not about the “thing” you give. It’s about the feeling behind the giving. The feeling that says, “Hey. I’ve been thinking about you and how much you mean to me. So, I put together some stuff to give you. Because I want you to know that I think you’re super awesome and I’m so glad you’re in my life.” At least that’s the unspoken words behind my gifts.

As I’ve been knitting feverishly to finish up my own holiday gifts, I’ve been watching my yearly dose of Christmas movies. I can’t seem to get enough of this song, either.

The Family Stone is one of my family’s favorites. This choice is only reinforced by my mother’s love for any movie with Diane Keaton. If you’ve seen it you know the scene where, after unsuccessfully trying and trying to impress her boyfriend’s family, Meredith accidentally spills a pan of breakfast egg goop  all over herself and cries out, “What’s so great about you guys?” Sybil, (aka Mama Stone played by THE Diane Keaton), replies, “Oh, nothing! It’s just that we’re all we’ve got.” Amen, Sybil. Mom loves Diane because she her characters speak the truth.

Whether it’s the holiday season or heartbreaking events or our favorite Christmas movies that remind us, WE are all we’ve got.

Handmade Holidays Gift Guide No. 4 : Give from the heart.

*Give from your heart.  That’s it! There are no rules about it. You just gotta go with what you’re feeling. In my opinion, a hug and a handwritten note would suffice. But, I don’t think anyone would pass up some homemade Salted Caramel Brownies, a hand knit hat or handmade pajama pants, a framed photo, a good book, or even a gift certificate to their favorite store. You totally got this.

As you know, our Home Made Holiday Party + Stash Swap is TONIGHT! We’re hanging out here from 6-8PM, eating cookies, drinking sparkling cider, and exchanging our *wrapped* stash gifts. Stash gifts = some nice stuff from your stash that you’re no longer into (valued at $20 or less) that you wrapped up real pretty and are going to regift in our fun interactive gift exchange.

One last-minute addition to the plan is that we’ll also be stitching up some pillowcases for the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School. A quilt shop in Connecticut is spear-heading this effort, which you can read a little about here. All the fabric will be donated by Home Made + friends. We’ll have sewing stations and volunteer instructors available so you just need to show up and try your best. No sewing experience necessary!

If you can’t make it to our party tonight but would like to make a pillowcase, just make it and drop it off (washed and ironed) to the shop by noon THIS Saturday and we’ll include in our shipment.

See you later!
