Another swoon-worthy yarn by Manos del Uruguay has arrived to the shop called Fino. Have you seen it yet?

Fino is a gorgeous blend of merino and silk that is hand dyed to create that tonal color. It’s got a really pretty sheen and color variation to it — just a little tricky to fully capture on my little camera. So, I think you’re just gonna HAVE to come see it in person. (:

Fino makes a perfect lightweight yarn for Summer knitting. Because when you’re sipping your glass of wine on the dock of the bay, you’re going want a little something on your shoulders like this Plume Shawlette don’t you think?

Plume Shawlette in Fino Yarn

The Pluma Shawlette is one of several free patterns from Manos del Uruguay featuring Fino. You can find the Pluma Shawlette pattern here, or we’ll give you printed copy on card stock with your yarn purchase. You should also check out the other projects you can make with Fino by clicking here.

While I’ve finished my Audrey cardigan in SweetGeorgia Yarns’ Tough Love Sock (woohoo!), I haven’t yet put on its buttons or blocked it. I will finish and share photos soon, I promise! However, has this fact deterred me from casting on for my own Pluma Shawlette in Fino’s Wardian Case? Absolutely NOT!

In addition to it being silky and soft, another attractive aspect of Fino is that it’s spun into 490 yard skeins. That means that just one skein will make an entire Shawlette! Plus, the Pluma Shawlette is a pretty basic triangular shawl made of up garter stitch and yarn overs until you get to the more detailed edging. So, if you’re a little nervous about tackling the edging, take comfort in knowing that it’s not the entire shawl. AND, it’s mapped out in chart form as well as written rows so you just have to take it step by step. You never know what you’re capable of if you don’t TRY. . .

Now, if you’re just being introduced to Manos del Uruguay yarns, you can read about the Manos Cooperatives here. From their website:

“With each purchased skein of Manos del Uruguay yarn you will be helping a woman to support her family. Each skein is signed, so you will know who made your yarn, and from which village it came. You will be supporting the hand-crafted rather than mass-produced, and contributing to an economy where the workers control of the means of production. You, as a handknitter, crocheter or weaver, will be contributing to women’s careers in harmony with family life, and contributing to the landscape, and cultural heritage of Uruguay.”

Hand-crafted instead of mass-produced. Good stuff. Real good.

You can purchased Fino yarn in the Home Made shop as well as find all the other knitting tools, accessories, and encouragement you’ll need to tackle your own Plume Shawlette or other fun project.
