Herrington : Complimentary Knit Workshop for August

July 02, 2014 Julie

Herrington Cowl Class

At night, if Ezra decides he’s agreeable to the idea, I read him a story before bedtime. Though, I’ll admit — he more often chooses to scream his head off. What a baby! ;) One of “our” favorites is this book, which I believe is helping instill in him an appreciation for making things. Growing up in a yarn and fabric shop, of a family that makes many things by hand, will probably help with that, too.

It must be his love for handmade that’s convinced Ezra that mama needs time to knit. It must! And, the fact that he’s 2 1/2 months old, sleeps a lot and, when he’s awake, is happy to just sit and look at sunlight coming in through the window. So, with Ezra’s blessing, I started a new knitting project called Herrington. My fingers are crossed he is also generous enough to let me finish it.

Herrington, with it’s herringbone-inspired graphic design, can be knit as a 3-color infinity scarf (pictured above) or a 2-color cowl (pictured below).

I’m working on the 2-color cowl version with Manos del Uruguay’s Fino in Ivory Letter-opener and The Fibre Company’s Canopy Fingering in Sarsaparrilla. Herrington is pretty darn stylish and makes a terrific project for trying out color-work. That’s why I’m designating it the project for August’s complimentary knit workshop.

Join us on Wednesday, August 20 from 10AM – 12PM to get started on your own! To participate in this workshop, just purchase your yarn and pattern in the Home Made shop. We’ll show you how to start your project with a provisional cast-on, read and knit a color-work chart, and then demonstrate how you’ll finish at home with grafting the beginning and end together with the kitchener stitch. Exciting, eh?

You can read about all our classes, including the Herrington workshop, by clicking here. When you’re convinced Herrington is just what you need to step up your knitting game, call 609.536.2940 or stop in to RSVP!

Fine yarn, knitting patterns, knitting needles, and loads of other goodies are sold in the Home Made shop. Stop on over!
