First Knit Sweater Class{Flax : free sweater pattern by Tin Can Knits}

Don’t you just swoon over a wee one sporting a hand knit sweater? Of course, I’m bit biased about this wee one. Well, if you answered “yes” and, in fact, a sweater has been on your to-knit list, our new First Knit Sweater class is for YOU! Think about how special a hand knit sweater by YOU could be for an expecting friend. *swoon* ;)

The reassuring news about this class is that we’re keeping it manageable with a basic, top-down raglan sweater. You’ll get to choose to knit a baby or child size so that we can show you the basics of sweater construction in a smaller project. That way, you’ll build your confidence before investing in the time and yarn for knitting an adult sized one for yourself! Good plan?

We’ll be using Flax, a free sweater pattern from Tin Can Knits, that you might remember me knitting while I was pregnant with Ezra. For mine, I chose Berroco Vintage yarn in a heather green.

John's Striped Sweater

For Ezra’s sweater, I followed the pattern exactly using a solid color of yarn. But, after completing one, I saw this pattern’s potential for helping me bust through my yarn stash. With some Spud and Chloe Sweater yarn from my stash, I knit this striped version for a friend’s baby. Though, I opted out of the decorative garter detail along each sleeve and knit plain stockinette.
