Last night's sunset really was the perfect opportunity to photograph my latest quilt project using Heather Ross' Mendocino fabrics. Gotta love that "golden hour." For my crib sized quilt finishing at 37" x 46", I used one of our Mendocino Fat Quarter Bundles along with a few, quieter solids.
I cut each fat quarter into a bunch of 5" squares and then randomly arranged them on my design wall before sewing. My quilt is 8 squares by 10 squares which I backed with 1 1/2 yards of one of my favorite Mendocino fabrics -- the mermaids. I quilted on the diagonal in both directions so that each square had an "X" stitched onto it. For binding, I used just used two coordinating scraps (probably about 1/2 yard total).
My intention for sharing this quilt is to show you that you don't need to get super fancy with your patchwork and quilting to make a beautiful quilt. This would be a great beginner project but it's still really fun to make if you're more experienced, too.
