With such weird Spring weather lately, this heat and humidity has taken me a bit by surprise. Now, it’s a little trickier for grown-up gals, but for little girls the simplest solution once the heat hits is a lightweight dress like Oliver + S’ Popover Sundress. It’s a free pattern you can find right here.
If this dress looks familiar, I made one before in Cloud9 Fabrics Simpatico cottons. The Popover Sundress is such a fun and simple dress to make that I couldn’t resist making another. This time I used Dear Stella Designs’ Confetti Dot as the main fabric with accents from the Timber + Leaf collection.
Aside from being a terrific introduction to sewing with Oliver + S children’s clothing patterns, the Popover Sundress can easily be made in an afternoon. And, you can embellish as you wish!
I decided to fussy cut circles out of a few different fabrics and then secure in place with a double-sided fusible (like the Steam-A-Seam Lite we sell here in the Home Made shop) before stitching a zig zag around the perimeter. Adding pockets would be super cute, too.
Will you make one for your favorite little girl?
You can even make a matching one for her doll, as there’s even instructions to make an 18″ doll dress. If you need a sewing warm-up, make this first.
All the fabrics you see above, Oliver + S sewing patterns, as well as sewing accessories and notions are available for purchase in the Home Made shop or by calling 609.536.2940.
In addition to loads of encouragement, we’ll also give you a printed copy of the Popover Sundress pattern with purchase of fabric. Let’s get sewing!
