It could be the incessant rainy-ness and my over-it attitude towards this cold weather that I’m feelin’ this new fabric line so much. I’m ready for warmer weather and beach time!
I bet my sentiments are completely understood by California-based Birch Fabrics, the company responsible for the latest fabric line I’ve added to the Home Made shop. The fabrics arrived yesterday and I’ll be busy the rest of today cutting some fat quarters for you to add to your stash while dreaming up my next project, of course. (:
I’m leaning towards a beach bag with “Happy Camping” (middle row, right) and “Dots in Rust” (middle row, center). What do you think? The whole line would also make a gorgeous quilt throw for a child’s bed or even to snuggle up with on your couch.
Aside from their fun, retro look, what I like most about these fabrics is that they’re made of organic cotton and low impact dyes. Just like another of my favorite companies to work with, Cloud9 Fabrics, Birch is concerned with how the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals in the manufacturing process affect our environment and us. According to Cloud9 Fabrics, “Cotton is the most widely used natural fiber and accounts for up to 50% of the textile market worldwide . . . [and] roughly 25% of the pesticides used in agriculture.” Yikes!
Even small measures like choosing a organic cotton fabric or yarn can make a difference. Of course, it helps that they’re super soft and dreamy with which to sew and knit. Smaller companies like Birch and Cloud9 understand that our craftacular world needs some of their great alternatives to the more traditional, synthetic supply options. Amen.
That said (and to reward those of you who’ve read this far), Home Made is giving away a FREE fat quarter (!!!) of one of new fabrics of Circa 60 Beach Mod with a purchase in the Home Made shop THIS Saturday + Sunday! You gotta try stitching with this goodness.
See you soon.
(Apologies to those of you who live too far away to come cash in on this giveaway. I’m still thinking of you, if that means anything . . .)
5-Minutes Later Update: I just remembered it’s April 1st. While I AM a fan of jokin’ around, I already know not to play with your heart like that. No April Fools’ here. This deal is FOR REAL.
