When I lived in Philadelphia, one of my favorite Fall activities was to grab some friends and take a drive up to Bucks County to go apple picking. Our spot was Solebury Orchards, located right near New Hope, PA, where we’d pick our own apples and wild flowers and then grab some delicious apple cider and/or cider doughnuts for the ride back to the city. Sadly, I haven’t been apple picking since I moved back to Cape May County almost three years ago! ): Note to self: Find time and and new spot for apple picking around southern New Jersey. Or, replace apple picking with pumpkin carving, hard cider, and ginger cookies. Or, do both.
So, I haven’t been apple picking in a while. Big whoop, right? I’ve got lots of other Fall activities and crafts to keep me busy like this knit pumpkin hat, putting together Home Made’s upcoming Craft Night, organizing Pub Knit Night (which is TONIGHT at 8PM at Circle Tavern in Avalon, where a pumpkin ale or some hard cider just might be in order), and teaching ya’ll how to knit and sew. Who needs apple picking when you have all that?!
Last year I made some of those sweet lil’ felt pumpkins that you see in the photograph above and may just have to make some more. They’re a fun project that you can turn into garland or place settings–gotta love those decorations that’ll last you from now through Thanksgiving! You can find my tutorial right here. And, I may need to squeeze in time to knit this pirate hat for my nephew before Halloween. . .
What fun Fall projects have you been up to?
Fabulous felt and embroidery thread for the Lil’ Felt Pumpkins and the Spud & Chloe Sweater yarn used for the Pumpkin Hat and Pirate Hat (links above) are available for purchase in the Home Made shop!
